"Next Fisherman's Mass - TBA"
When you come along to celebrate the Fisherman's Mass you are taking part in a traditional ceremony which has been a feature of the island's social calendar for many years.
The blessing of the local fishing boats takes place around the pier in Castlebay with one of the main highlights of the day being the annual boat race which takes place thereafter.
The carnival atmosphere is complemented perfectly by music and local seafood served up on the pier and this entertainment continues long into the night in the ceilidh held in the local village hall. A good time to be had by all!

Brilliant day, thank you to people of Barra for the wine and herring and the boat turn out was fun to watch even if we couldn't quite tell when race began or ended! | |
