Eating
Out -
Eating out in Barra is truly a joy for all
the senses! Fresh seafood caught locally is a
speciality served in most hotels as well as in the local
Indian restaurant situated in the heart of Castlebay.
All hotels are open to non-residents for meals, however in
the peak tourist season of the summer it is worthwhile
booking a table in advance to ensure you are not
disappointed! Even if a cup of tea and some home
baking is all you are looking for you will find a variety of
small cafes to chose from to sit and watch the world go by.

Pubs -
In the evening the island really comes to
life! There are four public bars for you to choose
from: The Castlebay Bar, Craigard, the Isle of Barra
and Heathbank. At the weekend you can experience the
electric atmosphere generated when local bands such as the
Vatersay Boys play live music or you can even try some
karaoke if you are feeling particularly brave!

Shops -
Shopping on Barra offers a completely
different experience to anything the mainland has to offer.
There is one local co-op, the main shop on the island, with
several other smaller stores selling everything from fresh
meat to local crafts. You can even buy your petrol from the
local butchers shop, a truly unique experience!
