      Well what can I add?
My wife and I had a fabulous couple of weeks at Crannag Cottage early in the season. Gerry’s information helped us to see everything we wanted to – the seals out to the west, a sunset over the beach opposite the airport, a trip down to Vatersay and lots more. We cannot compliment the location and host enough, everything was done to perfection and Gerry is the perfect host. We would recommend the cottage to anyone who wants a location out of the ordinary and off the grid with many must see situations.
Very popular so book well in advance.

For me personally this was the fulfilment of a dream location that I have always wanted to visit on Barra.
My husband and I travel separately to Barra, so having had the pleasure of flying, I arrived first at the cottage which is only a 15 -20 minute walk away from the airport across the beach.
The cottage was delightful, a home from home. It’s atmosphere was warm and relaxing. The views from the windows were stunning.
Gerry had left supplies for us to cover the Sunday and Monday. Please be aware there are no buses on a Sunday to get to the well stocked Co-Op in Castlebay, approx 8 miles away.
The cottage was well equipped with everything one needs for a comfortable self catering holiday.
My husband came on the ferry so we did have a car to get round the island. This we felt was very handy to get to BarrAtlantic for amazing fresh seafood and fish.
We did walk to the Heathbank hotel but the kitchen not open until the end of March but the bar was!!
We stayed from the 10th March-24th March 2019, which is out of season, so winter opening times were in operation, however this didn’t stop us enjoying Barra at all.
If you take joy in the simple pleasures of life, peace, nature, walking, cockling and just looking then Crannag cottage is for you.
The location alone should be enough for anybody, just stunning. It’s the first time in my adult life I enjoyed the sound of silence, so incredible. I can’t recommend it enough.
I also must comment on the lovely people we met, they were so friendly and helpful.
Barra has stolen a piece of my heart and Crannag will always feel like home.

Stayed here in October for a week.
One of the best locations for a cottage on the island. Inside it is well equipped and comfortable. Lovely to hear the waves outside.
Plenty of instuctions and guidance from the owner on how the cottage fixtures and fittings operate.
Would definitely recommend it to others.

Well, after staying at Crannag every summer since I can’t remember when, I just wanted to explain why it draws my family and me back time and time again. We generally arrive for 3 or 4 weeks, usually in June. Friends come and go by ferry or by plane and we just soak up the unique delights of Barra. The house is in a truly spectacular position. Even when the weather is unkind, to be able to observe the tides and everything they bring on both sides of the house is a special and endlessly fascinating activity. The house itself is always very comfortable and warm, when you need it. Given the unpredictability of the climate, to have a house that is easy and quick to heat is a real bonus. Of course, with wifi and tv reception even those visitors who want to stay connected can do just that. Gerry and his support staff are always looking for new ways to improve the facilities. Their approach is thoughtful and always hospitable. It goes, I hope, without saying that the house is always clean and ready to receive visitors. It is ideal for adults with or without children, with the convenience of always having somewhere to walk without resorting to the car. The beach in the bay is idyllic and if there is a down side it is that you will find yourself featured in lots of people’s holiday photos. They turn the corner and just stop to admire the beach and our bay. We just wave. It is truly a perfect location for a relaxing Hebridean holiday

Found this cottage by chance when surfing the net. Looked amazing and the reviews were fantastic. I contacted Gerry and was fortunate to get a booking at the beginning of June 2018. The cottage and the reviews lived up, fully, to expectations. This truly is a piece of heaven on earth that has to be seen. We found some of the most stunning and beautiful beaches to stroll along in the sunshine with our little Westie. We also climbed the hill to see the statue of Our Lady. Well worth it! the views over Castlebay were incredible
As others have said, Gerry provided very useful information and we were kept fully informed prior to our visit. The accommodation was amazing and the island idyllic. Thanks Gerry

My family has been staying in Crannag every year for over ten years! The most fantastic location, with stunning views in every direction! A fantastic cottage to switch off and just enjoy the tranquil beauty of the island.
The cottage comes equipped with every thing you would need!
Fantastic for plane spotting as if the winds in the right direction the plane flies over the house to land on the beach next door!
Fantastic swimming right next to the cottage, the rocks make for great snorkelling!!
Counting down till our next stay!

Insanely beautiful location for a holiday cottage. The light constantly dazzling on the water, massive skies, islands on the horizon, birds, silence, sand. The beach wraps round the cottage, always ridiculously perfect as we arrived home each day. You can do without a car. Walking and using the round and round the island bus. Always the same driver dropping us where we wanted, arranging where he’d pick us up again. Walking to the ferry to Eriskay. The cottage is warm. comfortable and well equipped. The sun shone and the wind whipped and when it rained we waited in the phone box for the bus to tear around the corner. Walked from the airport to the cottage and back for amazing flights. Magical.

We were lucky to stay in this wonderful cottage Jan to March 2018 with our 2 dogs. The cottage has everything you need and more, very well equipped, comfortable, homely warm and welcoming. A lovely place to sit and watch the waves and let the world go by. Views out of all the windows, the most wonderful blue sea and white sand on your doorstep every minute of every day. You cannot fail to capture the beauty of it in picture from wherever you stand. Barra is, as everyone says Barradise, so many people fall in love with it after a visit and we are no exception it is stunning, peaceful, almost magically enchanting.

We stayed here for nearly 2 weeks in November. Barra is beautiful and the cottage is just lovely and has everything you could need.

Although November is very quiet on the island we wanted a quiet and peaceful break seeing some beautiful beaches.

Gerry the owner is very helpful and provided lots of info before we arrived.

I will definitely return to Barra and to this cottage as in such a beautiful place.

Gerry is an excellent host and the cottage is in a great spot, probably the best on the island! Lovely friendly people on Barra, smashing to be waved at as you drive around. Highly recommended.

What can I say? Just the best cottage in the best location on one of the loveliest Scottish Islands. Gerry was always helpful and communicative, and we cannot wait to get back there.

Another fabulous 2 weeks at Cranag… it’s our “retreat” and feels like we’ve come home. Cranag provides a home from home base to explore this glorious Island that makes us come back year after year. The cottage is perfectly situated on its own Peninsular and yet again seals popped up just outside the window. Gerry is a great host and the cottage is comfortably furnished and always very clean and warm.
Always sad to leave…. but with the hope of further visits to come – dates booked for 2018 and 2019 already! Thank you once again Gerry as always Barra worked its magic.

Just got back from our first visit to Barra – cannot recommend Crannag more highly – such a wonderful setting having breakfast with those views in a morning – fabulous. We are cyclists and being just about half way round the island was prefect for dotting about visiting places whether for coffee at the Deck in Castlebay or a trip to the beautiful beaches at Vatersay. Wherever we went we received a warm welcome and the food everywhere was very good – Heathbank Hotel, Kisimul curry house, Castlebay Hotel, The Deck ….. all excellent. Hope to revisit soon !

We have just spend a fantastic 2 weeks at Crannag, with friends from the West Midlands who had never been to Barra before and we all had a ball. The cottage is very comfortable , perfectly equipped for whatever the weather throws at you, and is in one of the best settings on Barra. The little beach beside the cottage is great for kite flying (as long as the airport is not in use). We had a fantastic walk on Vatersay, and lots of scenic drives (one was up the Uists and back to Eriskay (a must). I cannot wait for a our next trip to Crannag, and our friends would love to return as well. We have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to anyone who wants a peaceful & quiet holiday.

We had the most wonderful week in Crannag. It was the second time we’ve stayed there and we loved it even more this time! The new kitchen was a joy. Very comfortable cottage with everything you could want for your stay. Gerry was extremely helpful from beginning to end. Can’t think of a better location on Barra…..just gorgeous. Loved waking up and looking over to Eriskay and watching the gannets diving. We’ll be back!

We stayed on the island and few years back and spotted the cottage on our travels to the airport and beeches etc. We were blown away by how wonderful the location is so decided we had to stay there one year. We booked it for early May 2017 and what a week it was. We were lucky with the weather as you can see from our photos and the house itself is absolutely amazing. It’s bigger on the inside than it looks, comfortable and a home from home we wanted for nothing even a bottle of wine awaited our arrival ( many thanks Gerry). We always look for places that allow dogs as we have 2 dogglet’s and take them everywhere with us. They also enjoyed the wet sand when the tide was out. We racked up some cockles and cooked them in a white wine source but next time we plan to buy them from local outlets as gathering them yourself is not as easy as it looks!
We enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked 2 weeks in 2019 so as not to be disappointed.
We have never met Gerry but he keeps you up to date with what is happening with your stay, sent a great email with things to do and go while we were on the island. He comes across as someone that wants you to enjoy your stay and hesee not just renting out a holiday cottage as the standard he has prepared the cottage too is pretty close to 5 star in our opinion.

Had a fantastic stay at the Crannag Beachside Cottage!
Before our visit Gerry was brilliant providing us with all the information we needed to make the most out of our days on the island. The cottage was lovely, clean, cozy and not too far along the beach from the airport. We are looking through our diary to plan our next visit!

Thank you for a fantastic holiday in one of the most beautifully located cottages we have ever encountered. Crannag is the perfect place to relax, and is perfectly located for exploring this fantastic island, even without a car. The bus stop is just at the end of the lane and you can get around easily by bike. We would love to come back, and are already missing Barra and Crannag.

We had a fantastic week here from 3rd to 10th July. The cottage is in one of the best locations/ landscapes I have ever seen and the views were stunning, constantly changing colours depending on the weather (see photos of cottage and view from garden).
The cottage is perfect for all your needs. Warm and cosy with all the facilities you would need and want on holiday. Lovely kitchen (all brand new) and a garden with the best view you could wish for. It is close to some of the most magnificent beaches you will ever see. I would highly recommend it.

This is quite simply the best place I know to relax and recharge batteries. It’s a very comfortable cottage, well-equipped and with a real homely feel. Its location is very special – sea, skies and sand. Lots of wildlife (otters, eagles, seals etc) and the thrill of watching the planes landing and taking off. Barra is brilliant and Crannag is best! Looking forward to my visit in 2017 already.

I had a great week at the cottage and struck lucky with the weather. The cottage is well equipped with a brand new kitchen. The location is simply stunning and Gerry goes beyond the call of duty to make sure your stay is a happy one. The island provides something for everybody and is easy to navigate. The cottage is warm and cosy even when the wind gets right up. The aircraft that land on the beach come right over the house twice a day and are great fun to watch. Beaches are great and the area is pet friendly. I took my Border Collie and he could believe his luck having a beach on the doorstep. Great value for money. Just book it!

Just seen this Claire. Hope you had a great time. I am sure Max would have been delighted to go back. Hope you had as good a time as we did.

Agree with all the reviews posted so far – fantastic position overlooking the beach ‘landing strip’ and looking out to sea. We came up for the weekend in mid-winter and despite the interesting ferry crossing and lots of weather we had a fantastic time.

Recommend (in no particular order) picking up fresh fish from the Barra-Atlantic shop down the road, walking to the airport and over the dunes to the beach facing the expanse of the North Atlantic, watching Whisky Galore with a whisky to hand (DVD available in the cottage!) and definitely having a meal at Cafe Kisimul.

Finally Gerry the owner could not be more helpful/accommodating and local info provided before our trip was excellent. Would go back this year but (unsurprisingly) booked up for the summer!

My only advice would be to fly and if not and you’re taking the ferry don’t go for the full Scottish breakfast!

Definately the best spot on the island, I just love it. The perfect place to recharge your batteries and be mindful. Watch the sun go down over the west sands, listen to the roar of the waves and run the sand dunes, absolutely fantastic ! Brilliant to watch the planes land on the beach and when the tide is out rake for cockles. The cottage is very well equipped and cosy and has a great feel to it. We cant wait to go back !

My family and I had an amazing holiday!!
In-fact in the 10yrs that we have been going to Barra, we can honestly say that the 2 weeks we spent in Crannag have been the most special to us all.
The house was just perfect for us all, especially for our children, and the location is absolutely stunning.!!
We cannot wait wait to go back again!!

Barra is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to, and The Crannagh is in the perfect location to see it all. Sited directly next to the airport, it is perfect if you are flying, and if not it is amazing to watch the tiny plane landing on the beach. The cosy cottage is fully equipt for all your holiday needs and has direct access to the beach. When the tide is out you can rake for cockles and walk to the island across the water…a very special place.
