  • We had a wonderful stay on Barra during the last week in October. Taigh a Dun was a great house to say – it was very comfortable, well equipped, warm and cosy and really well maintained. It was an ideal place to explore the island from. Weather was mixed but we still managed to see a lot of places. Catriona and her husband Murdo were incredibly helpful and kind. One example was, I accidentally left my hat behind in the house and Catriona immediately offered to post it to me and she refused to accept any payment for postage. I would highly recommend staying in Taigh a Dun.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay in Taigh a Dun. This is a very well equipped, comfortable cottage, which more than adequately met our needs during our stay.
Barra is a very beautiful and welcoming place which we particularly enjoyed exploring, and also meeting up with some of our island relations..
We are hoping to return for a longer stay next year.

What a lucky find this place is it is absolutely stunning and well equipped with everything that you could ever need and more and even has the basics like fresh milk and teabags and coffee and sugar unlike some other places we have been to.The place is absolutely clean and fresh and plenty of parking and great scenery to sit out at night ,can’t wait to come back many thanks

Excellent stay in Taigh a Dun in early June 2023. Great Communication with Catriona and easy booking for our stay in Barra which was our first stop on a South to North Outer Hebrides tour. Taig a Dun has been refurbished, equipped and decorated to a high standard. Perfect for all weathers. We were lucky to have great weather for our visit and the sunsets were amazing so ideal to be on the west coast and a short walk to the sea. A few highlights of the property : Modern bathroom , well equipped kitchen, great shower, loads of parking space by the door , washing line for drying swim towels etc , warm and comfortable , good wifi and tv, comfortable beds, quiet location close to main road. In summary a great low stress place to stay for family of 4. I highly recommend for a relaxing stay in the wonderful IOB

We think Taigh a Dun is a lovely cottage – perfect for a self-catering holiday with plenty of fridge/freezer space for a full week’s food shop! And we agree with the other reviews – Catriona’s cottage is definitely 5 star!
I’m glad we spotted the cottage on the ‘barra-accommodation.co.uk’ website. On previous visits to Barra we’ve stayed in the town of Castlebay but we found the cottage’s location in Borve ideal for quicker and easier access to the west coast beaches and inland to the hills. The view of all the higher Barra hills from the cottage windows was very useful for planning day to day ‘cloud-free’ hilltop walks! And from the small hill a minute beyond the end of the cottage’s garden the late evening sunsets into the sea were a spectacular delight!

  • THANK YOU CATRIONA FOR A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY YOU ARE INDEED A WONDERFUL HOST,HOPEFULLY SEE YOU AGAIN NEXT YEAR OR HOPEFULLY GET MY OWN HOME ON BARRA.
